What's new on Hulu in July 2023
Everything that's coming to Hulu in July — What to Watch picks the TV shows and movies to add to your watch list.
What's new on Hulu in July? A plethora of classic summer blockbusters and other hidden movie gems, Sharkfest 2023, a behind-the-scenes look at one of the biggest bands in the world and the return of a massively popular character who's been off our screens for a good long while.
The full slate of what's coming to Hulu is below, but here are the titles that we are most excited to stream this month.
Best movie on Hulu in July: Whiplash (July 1)
Damien Chazelle's Babylon didn't have the best reception in late 2022 (though we certainly loved the movie, as evident by our Babylon review). But the Oscar-winning director has still been one of the best in Hollywood for the last 10 years or so. If you need reminding of that, watch Whiplash. Chazelle's breakout movie is an intense dive into the world of a jazz conservatory, where an aspiring drummer must deal with a demanding, abusive teacher to try and reach greatness. Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons (in an Oscar-winning performance) are spectacular, especially in a final scene that is pure electricity.
Also to add to your Hulu watchlist are the Alien franchise, Natalie Portman's 2004 movie Closer, George Clooney's The Descendants, Die Hard, Steve Martin's Father of the Bride movies, Ford v Ferrari, two-thirds of Lord of the Rings (Two Towers and Return of the King), Mrs. Doubtfire and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
Best TV show on Hulu in July: Justified: City Primeval (July 19)
Marshal Raylan Givens is back. It's been eight years since the original fan favorite Justified series was on the air, but Timothy Olyphant dons his cowboy hat once again for an all-new chapter about the lawman in Justified: City Primeval. Based on Elmore Leonard's novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit, Givens is on the pursuit of a violent sociopath and dealing with his tough-as-nails defense lawyer. You can watch Justified: City Primeval on TV, as episodes air first on FX, but if you miss it live or have cut the cord, Hulu is going to be the place to catch the limited series.
Some other TV programming that you can enjoy this month on Hulu is the full slate of National Geographic's SharkFest 2023 programming, plus What We Do in the Shadows season 5 and Celebrity Family Feud available on-demand on the streaming platform.
Best Hulu original: Futurama season 11 (July 24)
Futurama has had quite the journey, from originally airing on Fox to getting a reboot on Comedy Central to now becoming a Hulu original series. The crew of Planet Express are all back in the latest reboot, Futurama season 11, including Fry (Billy West), Leela (Katey Sagal), Bender (John DiMaggio) and more. It's going to be a blast to see what future adventures they all are up to.
There are a few other Hulu originals worth mentioning this month, including the Imagine Dragons Live in Vegas behind-the-scenes documentary, CMA Fest: 50 Years of Fan Fair and This Fool season 2.
